The Study Commission on Poultry was established as a direct continuation of the successful EAAP Poultry Working Group. It reflects expectations of EAAP Community and meetings participants for addressing poultry research within the EAAP and the increasing complexity of poultry-related challenges. The Commission gathers a dynamic group of researchers and industry members from diverse disciplines including animal science, health, nutrition, physiology, genetics, microbiome research, and socio-economics. It provides a dedicated scientific platform that encourages interdisciplinary dialogue and fosters collaboration across sectors, contributing to the holistic One Health approach. The Commission actively engages with national and international organizations such as WPSA, facilitating stronger links between scientific research, policy-making, and industry practice.

The Study Commission on Poultry aims to advance sustainable poultry production systems that meet the demands of, animal welfare, environmental protection and consumers. Poultry, as a globally significant and accessible protein source, plays a pivotal role in nutrition and food security. However, modern production systems face emerging challenges: environmental stress, climate change, antimicrobial resistance, welfare concerns, and feed-food competition. The Commission promotes scientific innovation to address these issues by facilitating knowledge exchange among researchers, industry experts, and policy stakeholders. It serves as a hub for discussing cutting-edge research in poultry biology, management, and health, and supports the development of evidence-based solutions for resilient, ethical, and efficient poultry production and poultry based research across diverse systems.

  • organization of well attended scientific sessions during the annual meetings of the EAAP
  • addressing focal topics through webinars
  • setting workable channels with Study Commissions in EAAP and outside the organization
  • disseminating input from ‘poultry researchers’ to EAAP (eg. through popularizing articles)
