Andreas Hofer retired

Andreas is well known in EAAP as he was an important member of the organizing committee of the Annual Meeting 2021 in Davos. But his services to EAAP is much longer since he was secretary of the genetics commission from 1998 – 2003, then Council member from 2008-2012 and, during this time, involved in implementing individual EAAP membership structure. He then was auditor of EAAP
accounts for the years 2013 in 2014. Finally, EAAP awarded him with the Distinguished Service Award (DSA) in 2015. Swiss colleagues also know Andreas because, after studying science at ETH Zürich he began to work in the Swiss pig breeding program of SUISAG (Sempach) in 1999. There he established and lead the breeding department for more than 10 years. After 9 months traveling break, he continued as leader R&D at SUISAG until his retirement at the end of January 2022. The focus of his entire scientific and industry career was on R&D in genetic evaluation and covered the first implementation of BLUP animal models in the early 90’s to multiple trait
ssGBLUP today.
