The EAAP participated in ISAS2023 in Serbia
The International Symposium on Animal Science (ISAS) 2023 took place in Novi Sad (Republic of Serbia), during 18-20 September 2023. The organizing institutions, Faculties of Agriculture of the Universities of Novi Sad and Belgrade, invited several EAAP members to present talks at the meeting. Isabel Casasús, President of the EAAP, opened the conference with a presentation on the current challenges for livestock production in Europe, the R&D priorities to address them (namely, improving production efficiency and animal health and welfare, reducing emissions, and developing circular farming systems and enhancing the positive externalities of livestock farming), and the supporting role of the EAAP in fostering the exchange of experience and collaboration amongst science, industry and society. Hans Sölkner, Klemen Potocnik (Council Members) and Jaap Van Milgen (chair of the Animal board) also participated in several scientific sessions, together with researchers from 20 countries who presented over 80 papers. Besides, eight panel discussions were held on-site and live broadcasted on hot topics such as a cultured meat, African swine fever, organic farming or environmental impact. In order to explore future collaborations, the President of the EAAP met Serbian representatives from the Universities of Belgrade (Vice-Dean Prof. Dr Vladan Bogdanović) and Novi Sad (former EAAP Council member, Prof. Dr. Denis Kučević), and also potential members from Hungary and Bosnia-Herzegovina (Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences, University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr Muhamed Brka).
